The roof had many different shapes, and the one which can be seen today dates back to 1826. The second passageway making the link with the Small Square was finished in 1930.

The Council Tower had many roles in its long history, from cereal warehouse, fire observation tower, temporary arrest building, to a science museum in the middle of the 18 th century.

A medieval weapon display was also held here.

Today, the Council Tower offers a great view from the 7 th storey and visitors can also admire the mechanism of the clock on the 6 th storey.
